Stock Trackbar Life Span

I just installed a set of 2.5" sky jacker leveling springs. The install took about 4 hours of actual work using two floor jacks, basic hand tools, and a homemade spring compressor Now the question is how long will my stock trackbar last?

Matt

Re:Stock Trackbar Life Span

Ironhorse
If you have over 50k miles on your beast of burden, the stock track bar is probably aready past its prime. I replaced mine with a unit from Lindstat Alignment for half of the ******* price. Their track bar is a stock unit with their proprietary end welded on. Much better than stock. They can be reached at 800-432-0017. Sorry I can't provide a link, I'm not that literate.

Re:Stock Trackbar Life Span

Just curious but is there another way beside replacing the whole track bar. Like pressing out the ends of the track bar and pressing new ends in? I thought i had heard someone else talk about this also. i have already replaced mine. Just wondering. -Anthony

Isn't the "Luke's Link" fix for the trackbar just replacement ends for the stock bar?

Maybe do a search for "luke's link".

I think the "DT Trackbar" fix is a whole unit.

Those are the two most popular fixes, here and other boards, and a replacement from NAPA I think.

phox

Re:Stock Trackbar Life Span

The truck has about 5500 miles on it now, so I should be able to get a little more life out of it. Any one running the DT trackbar? It looks like a good unit, but is there anything comperable for less money?

Matt

Re:Stock Trackbar Life Span

Just replaced the trackbar on mine at 79k. They put a Moog part on it. A friend of mine has a 2002 1 ton and replaced his at under 15K (at least warranty covered his..)

Michael

Re:Stock Trackbar Life Span

Iron Horse
If you put a set of D25 springs in, it won't last long from my experience. Mine lasted about 4K miles after D25's as I think they abuse it more. Also with those springs the only real fix is a DT trackbar if you want to center your axel that is. If you look and measure your axel will be off center with those springs and I believe the DT is the only adjustable length trackbar out there. Its what I run and I like it.
JMHO

Re:Stock Trackbar Life Span

That is about what I expected to hear. I guess that a DT trackbar is first on my list of things to buy. Thanks a lot for the feedback.

Matt

Re:Stock Trackbar Life Span

I installed the Lukes Link kit on mine, $75 shipped to the house, took about one hour to install.

www.lukeslink.com

The track bar is the one that goes from the lower right side of the front axle to the attachment point on the left side of the frame.

Re:Stock Trackbar Life Span

Well, you don't have to change it, but if you don't replace it with an adjustable unit it will shift your front axle to the drivers side a little with the lift.
