Squeeking driving me CRAZY!

There is a squeeking/creeking sound coming from between the cab and box of my dually. It is coming from under the truck. It sounds like one of those cheap styrofoam coolers(the ones you get at the gas station) is in my back seat and squeeking wildly. IT IS DRIVING ME CRAZY. It on squeeked when i hit bumps, now it is all the time. I was on the creeper in the shop and if I push up on the fuel tank, it makes the sound I am hearing. but i really have to push hard. If i spray WD 40 between the cab and box and on top of the tank, it goes away for a little bit. Has anyone else had this problem? Do i need to drop the tank and clean it off. I have big trip planned and If I have to listen to this for 3000miles, I might really go NUTS. Radio doesn't go loud enough. (girlfriend suggested a louder radio) Not funny.

Also,
I don't think it matters if it is hot/cold out or full of fuel or not.

You might try tightning the tank straps. Also may be able to put some rubber strips between the tank and the straps to get rid of the squeking.

roughstock, I had the same problem as you. I finally tracked it down to the tank contacting the lip on the underside of the bed or cab...can't remember which now. I sprayed some lithium grease between the bed and the cab where the tank touches and I haven't had the squeek in about a year. Not much help to you but that's what I did.

That makes sense with the lithium grease, because when i sprayed the area down with WD 40, it went away(not for long), but i didnt know what to spray, so I soaked it all. I'll try to grease it up tonight. Thanks

Squeeking driving me crazy!

Always remember, WD-40 is a solvent, not a lubricant. There are no petroleum lubricants in wd-40. It breaks down lubricants already applied but does not replace any lube, hence the temporary fix. I use Castrol Synthetic spray lube on my truck. It's great on the door hinge rollers!

This is kinda funny, I was under my truck lastnight looking for a squeek that's driving me nuts as well.

I found the exact squeek you did however my squeek is comming more from the front somewhere.

Sounds like metal on metal, sheet metal that is.
I've sprayed everything I can see with Lithium grease and it did take care of the squeek I had @ the fuel tank but not the main one.

Sounds like it's comming from the drivers area out side, any sugestions?

For referance mine (tank) was squeeking where it touches the smaller crossmember just behind the transfercase so, I took a old bike tube and cut a piece out then pushed the front of the tank up and fished it through there.

If anyone has sugestions for my little mouse I SURE would appreciate it.
