so my 98 has the sport headlights in it. it is not a sport model truck. since these headlights have two bulbs for each side only the outside ones are hooked-up. this is how the truck came when i bought it. my question is can i tap into the wiring harness for the headlights to power the inside lights? it looked like the PO tried to wire up the inside lights but they arent working. any ideas? or should i go back to the stock headlight set up (i have a set of stock headlights)? or an aftermarket on? BTW these lights on bright dont come close to the 96 that i had when those were on low beam. and low beams on the 98 arent even an option.... they stink that bad. thanks

That conversion was probably the best upgrade I did. Do yourself a favor and get the harness from suvlights.com. It is all plug and play. Takes voltage straight from the battery so it takes the load from the factory harness and switch.

If they aren't an improvement over the stock single bulbs they are installed wrong in my opinion. They probably need the correct wiring harness as suggested. This may clear up some of the other problems you are having too.

I just ordered the harness from suvlights... hopefully it doesnt take too long to get here.... now i wanna see how much it will help. Thanks for the info! think this will solve the "hi-beam indicator" always on problem?

Who can tell me what it takes to install the "sport" lights in my "95. I recall reading that a Sawzall in involved somehow.

you might have to trim some sheet metal to make them fit but dont quote me on that. mine look like they fit with no modification. just make sure you get the whole assembly as the marker lights and mounting bracket are not interchangeable betwen sport and non-sport models. just take out the whole assembly and put in the sport assembly. that part will bolt up. some have said that taking off the top bumper cover provides alittle more room to work.

once i get the harness i will update with pics and all that good stuff.

Ditto on the relay harness from suvlights. Should just be a plug and go job. Made a huge difference with the conversion on my '00.

It was real easy to install, plug your harness into it, plug the ends into the new lights, power and ground.

That looks like the right one.

All relays are included, they plug into the new harness.

It should work on any vehicle that uses one 9004 bulb, and is being converted to a two (9004 and 9007) bulb light.

The inner fender will need to be trimmed to have room for the second bulb. You could maybe drill a big access hole if you like. Personally I thought it much easier to just cut the original hole much larger. It is all covered by the light so it cannot be seen.

the hole that will need to be cut to fit the extra bulb if not already done. its the hole on the left.


i took my headlights, batterys, and battery trays out to give myself more room to work as well as so i could take some pics. the harness plugs into the factory plug for the stock bulbs. run the power wire to the battery and ground the ground wire in a good spot. i used the ground on the battery. then you have to plug the relays into the new harness and mount them. heres where i mounted mine. its right above the headlight out of the way but i can still change them if i need to.


heres how much my low beams improved after the install.


its kinda like comparing a mag light with dying batterys to a sure fire with fresh batterys.

and last but not least here is the rats nest i removed from the truck that was there when i got it.
