SOS help. Blown freeze plug
I blew my freeze plug on my 96 12v this last week. The part just came in today at the dealer, I bought 2 just in case. I plan on doing it tomorrow. Has anyone ever done one or have any tips or suggestions. It is the farthest back plug on the lower passengers side next to the exhaust pipe and heat exchanger. The plug itself is a little over 2 inches. Any suggestions or comments are more than welcomed.

Are you just replacing the freeze plug or are you installing the bypass kit? The freeze plug blows because they corrode and also because the cooling system is designed in such a way that the water pump crams all the coolant to the back of the block and it builds up pressure back there as it tries to flow back to the front of the engine. If a freeze plug gets weak then the pressure causes it to pop. This is more of a problem in high HP/ high RPM situations on these engines. There are a couple kits which includes a freeze plug bolt on cap and a hose fitting which runs that coolant back around to the bottom radiator hose and there's kits which tie into the cylinder head coolant ports. These are supposed to help reduce the running temps of the back two cylinders too.
