soft fading brakes

Attempting to brake to a stop, I noticed the pedal felt real soft. It dropped closer to the floor more than the usual. Also, I saw at the same time the dash light for the ABS light was on. This light was not on consistently, in fact, it hasn't done it for a while. Brakes are still on the soft squishy side. Mileage just passed 70K. Meat on the front rotors is still good. Same for rears(discs). Where to look for remedy. Should I just bleed out the discolored break fluid. Its pretty dark. Thats from moisture, right?

Thanks for any responses

Start by bleeding the old fluid out. It could be the water boiling off in the calipers & wheel cylinders. After that, I'd look into a new master. What you are describing is a tell-tale sign the master needs to be replaced.

you have an abs problem and your abs pump seems to be kicking in. is it only your abs light that is on or is the emergency brake light on as well?
