Should I buy it?

Found a 96 CC 5speed with 230K on the ticker. It's been in an accident quite awhile back, but looks to be fixed right. It does have some rust starting on the bottom of the doors. Also a fair sized detn inthe hood. Front & rear bumpers are also bented pretty bad. New tires and a posi-lok replaces the CAD. The dealer wants $6500 for it. Does that sound fair? It would need some work on the doors, and probably a hood. There are a few small dings, and scratched, but nothing major. Interior is fair to good.

I would offer less than $6500 becasue of the damage... we all know that the Cummins can handle a lot of miles... but at 230K there will need to be a tune up... and if the truck falls apart around the engine, then you are stuck paying $6500 for a 230K mile engine....

The truck also has as many miles as the engine. Things like ball joints, tie rod ends and other steering components, bearings and brakes are all things the wear out. aAnd like my brother-in-law can verify they can nickel and dime you to death. It could also never give a you any problems!

I agree, price is a little high, but diesels nowadays have a good resale value.

I noticed the north central US has usually higher prices for these trucks, if you don't mind traveling a little check far away from us.

i HAD A '96 2500 SRW. Based on the piece of crap that surrounded the Cummins, I wouldn't buy it. I was throwing good money down the drain to fix that thing all the time.

I just bought a very similar conditioned 99 for $5300. Get em to knock it down. And that price was for a florida truck.

I've got a 96 and couldn't imagine owning anything else. I've never had any problems yet, but then again I just broke 55k miles.
