Service manuals.....

Service manuals.....
I am in the market for a service manual for my truck. Who sells the best one that covers the whole truck? Does anybody sell one that shows both Dodge and Cummins part numbers? I would rather buy my engine parts from Cummins but my local Cummins dealer won't do anything without a part number. The Dodge dealers don't know crap so I don't want to have to go to them each time I need something.<br><br>Thanks..

If I may, given that techauthority is the only "good" source, what are the feelings about the hardcover vs cd rom? Both have advantages and disadvantages. Does it boil down to personal preference or is there a clear advantage of one over the other? I need it for casual reference, not daily, up to the elbows grease monkey work (no offense to all you grease monkeys, I just wish I could do your work with your skills).<br><br>~Dave

Re:Service manuals.....
I bought a CD manual off of Ebay. While there's quite a bit of good info/diagrams etc. it doesn't have any kind of an index which makes finding things a bit tedious to say the least. I'll be buying the genuine DC shop manual after Christmas.

Re:Service manuals.....
Thanks for the replies. I definitely want a book since I don't have a computer mounted under the hood of the truck!! I don't want to have to keep going inside to look at the computer if I'm in the middle of doing a repair. I want to have a book in front of me. <br>I tried that link but it seems to be locked up. I get to the page but I can't do anything with it.. ??? I'll try it later..

I chose the book mostly because I can keep it in the truck, take it on trips, read it on the toilet, etc.. and it's pretty quick to look something up! The CD would be decent, but then you would have to print out everything and unless you carry a laptop w/ you, pretty much useless having it in the truck!
Dodgezilla -- The page is under construction! The number in the front of my book is 1-800-890-4038. You could probably just call them and order it. I think they are all $110 and the CD's are like $90.

Re:Service manuals.....
I phoned the 1-800 number I posted yesterday. It was Daimler Chrysler Canada. I was quoted $96.30 for a 1996 service manual that covers 1500-3500 Gas and Diesel. (about $60USD) I can't say for sure if Techauthority's book is different/better or not.

Dave,
I got the CD from Tech Authority. I like the fact that I can print out the pages that reference the part I'm working on and don't have to worry about getting them dirty. I just throw away the pages when I'm done. The search feature is nice. Part numbers are hard to find though.

Re:Service manuals.....
I got a new factory service manual on ebay for 47 bucks. I believe these go for around $145 if you try and buy on through the local *******. Just type in 98 dodge Rm service manual. There always seems to be quite a few available. Good luck
