I have same year truck and the same problem, drivers side seat does not heat up(blinks) but passengers side works fine.
I have put up with it for 2 years now.
This winter i was planning to buy good plush seat covers as i figure they would be cheaper than to get the problem with seat fixed.
Maybe Santa (wife) bought that for me this year. Can anyone tell her what store to find these in Canada.
Leather seats are also too hot on the bee hind in the summer!!!

I just ran into an 01 today with this issue. Flashing light is a prob with the heat grid and calls for replacing. Depending on build date and style, the heat grid is either separate or built into the cover. This one was a tan leather seat and the heater is part of the cover. $860.00.........and is no longer available.

I don't think your talking about a "major" repair here, in terms of $ or time.
The cushion trim is held on by J clips that can be removed my compressing the foam a little pressure by hand) and tugging on the front clip first. The same style J's should be on the sides and back. The trim should be held onto the foam/heater with hook and loop/ heavy duty velcro.
Check with a dealer for pricing, then do it yourself (or his-self).
(This applies to a cloth trim only, as per J-Body). Plus, leather upholstery can be much tougher to disassemble, cloth can be done by anyone, with NO tools.
