My dust shields are rusty with holes in them and they are rubbing the rotor will there be any problem just leaving them off after I do my ball joints.
Thanks
Mike

First time you drive through a puddle and hit the brakes, you'll wish you put them back on.

I'v had mine off for a few thousand now with no ill affects. Was just a brainfart leaving them off, but has made no differance in braking.

I've been tempted many times to leave them off, pain in the butt to get them to stay lined up when installing the rotor.
But I haven't, my thinking being that if Dodge saves pennies by eliminating things like the passenger grab handle that there must be a reason for the shields.

I hate the thought of dealing with my front brakes again. What a nightmare. $500.00 bucks worth to get it goin again. I put them back on, even though it was a pain. Just get the bent right and it wont squeak. I dont see why you wouldnt keep them? I know they rust through and are thin, but I guess its just me...

On only 1 occasion in a few thousand miles now I got a rock in the caliper on an old tar road, just backed up a few feet and it popped out.

In my case I need to be able to look quick at the inside pad to make sure it is ok.

Do you guys have any other reasoning for leaving them off?

No problems doing so? What are the potential ill effects?

Dealer wants $50 ea for the rotor dust shields, and $10 ea for the little spacer.

Cheaper way to get them?

I took mine off because rocks always get caught in there. They dont do a darn thing. Water will get in there no matter what. I have had no problems on my trucks without the rock guards. Dont worry about it.
