Reverse light problem? Adjust?

MY '99 Dodge Ram 3500 is auto 4x4 CTD.

Well I recently noticed my reverse light doent work properly.

Infact it will only light up if I hold the shiftl ever toward P in reverse. If I leave it in R only it will not light up the reverse lights!

Anyone know how I can fix this. Its frustrating when people dont know your baking up until your on there hoods.

Also while looking inside the steering colunm area, I took off the lower cover of the steering area plastic that hides the steering and wires; and I noticed a white plastic **** wheel that screws in and out of something that adust a wire or cable on the steering colunm. It moves when I move the lever only. ????Is this the adjust place or does this only adjust the P R N D 2 1 location arrow??

Thanks and hope someone can point me in the right direction!

I had this problem last year and VZdude gave me the answer. It's the park/neutral switch. The sensor screws directly onto the driverside of the trans above the pan. I can post a pic for you tomorrow if you need. Oh, and get ready for 1 quart of ATF to drain out. The sensor is about $15 if i remember right.
I have to admit. I did the exact same thing as you when my sensor started acting funny. I dismantled the steering column and looked for something to adjust and all i found was the little gear indicator.

Yeah i'll post the picture for ya. I bought the part from a local auto parts store. The brand was Borg-warner. I can get you the part number in 2 weeks. I'm out of town working right now.
