Replacing stereo head unit with Kenwwod with Stock Infinity
I'm hoping there are some wiring gurus out there.
I have 1998 Ram 2500 Quad cab. I am replacing my factory stereo head unit because the **** that controls the fade/balance is bad and causing problems, and my CD changer keeps jamming. I have a factory Infinity system with the pillar tweeters, front speakers have the amp attached.
I got a Kenwood KDC-BT318U CD player. I also got the adapter wiring kit. Wired it all up, plugged it in, and I have rear speakers only. The front speakers and pillar tweeters put out nothing. I plugged the factory unit back in, and they came on, so it's not the speakers. I double checked all the wiring connections. I tried hooking the blue P-power wire (which according to the stereo book should be amp power) to the blue wire on the adapter which went to the only remaining unconnected factory wire thinking it must be an amp power wire. Still nothing. I have searched for a wiring diagram online, and have come up with no answers yet.
Am I doing something wrong? Or could it be a problem in the new stereo? How much power should be output from the P-power wire? Should I just take out the Infinty and replace the front speakers?
I just want some tunes that sound decent. Suggestions? Please help. Thanks.

Did you try moving the fade all the way to the front on the new kenwood?
If you are having trouble with the fader on two head units, this makes me think maybe its not the ****?
You can test the output of the new head unit by running temporary jumper wires (try hooking the rear speakers to the front outputs on the head unit....this will tell you if the front output is working.)

If I recall it is the stock front speakers that are the issue. Seems I remember way back issues with aftermarket stereos utilizing the amped infinity front speakers was a problem. As in they wont work. You might try a call to crutchfield tech they might be able to help you. I would do as APD said as well just switch the rear speakers to the front to make sure it isn't the head unit but again I am almost positive the amped infinities don't work with aftermarket heads without something else being done or not at all

Barry-Thats what Im beginning to think. But I found posts where others got them to work, they just dont say exactly how. Its something with powering the amp.
APD- Ya know, I never thought of switching the wires, duh, I feel kinda dumb now. Anyway, on the original head unit, the left front worked, but the right front did not. And if you moved the *** (misspelled on purpose because for some reason the thread is starring it out) for the fade/balance, it just got scratchy. And yes I did move the fade on the new one to the front, and it was dead silent, but both rear worked fine.
I guess I need to find a way to power the amp.

New development... I connected the amp power wire out of the stereo to the power antenna wire in the truck. The LF speaker came on, but not the right. So, apparently, what is marked in the truck as the power antenna wire is actually the amp power wire. So now I have 3 speakers. Now to find the problem with the RF speaker. Separate fuses maybe?

So.... The right hand speaker does not work because it is dead. Checked all the power. All good. Pulled LF speaker, plugged into RF door, works fine. Conclusion, after all this, I have to get new speakers anyway. Well I hope this thread helps someone someday find the answers.
Reminder, the wire in the truck loom marked antenna is the power wire for your amp for the speakers.
