Removing rear seat in a 2002 QC 3500 dually ?
Hi Guys,
I am thinking about removing the rear seat in my 2002 quad cab. The wife and I are going on a trip and would like to take the dog (140+ lb ) along and don't want to ruin the leather bench seat. I was thinking that I could remove the whole bench seat and build a padded platform out of 5/8" ply and save the seat from damage. Having the rear door would sure make things easier.
Has onyone removed their rear seat ? If you have what is involved and how diificult is it ?
I have not tried yet, I am just looking for advice and the wisdom of your hard gained experience.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I don't know if the seat hinges the same as my club cab, but there are only 4 bolts holding the feet to the floor and then you lift it up to get the rear hangers off the hooks on the back of the cab. Takes about 10 minutes.
There are locating tabs on the bottom of the seat feet so you have to slide it back about 1-2" to get those out of the floor, then straight up.

I have the same truck and I took a piece of plywood, cut it short enough to let a child sit on the seat behind the front passenger space. Then I added a couple of 2x4 hinged legs to sit on the floor. A piece of 2" foam and some cheap vinyl from the upolstry(?) shop and stapled it together. When the dog was around I could quickly slide it in and out, was soft and comfy for the dog and the vinyl gave his paws some traction, otherwise he didn't like just hard wood. He always was digging his claws in to keep from sliding around. Throw in a couple of blankets and he would happily sleep for hours. Now I spend a lot of time on the ferries so I've a place to stretch out and sleep.

The rear seat is vinyl. The leather is only on the front "Seating surfaces", basically the top of the seat and the front of the seatback. The rest of the seating upholstery is vinyl.
IIRC the rear seatback can be removed by pulling up on it. As for the base, you'd have to start digging around the hinges at the bottom rear corners.
