rearview mirror green light???

My rearview mirror has a button on the bottom that turns green when you push it up, but it goes out when released. It will not stay pushed in, and it also doesn't stay lit up when released.

Is it supposed to stay locked in? Is the green light supposed to stay lit?

I ask because I'm getting blinded by the jerks who like to drive with their high beams on while tailgating me...

Thanks, I just want to know how this mirror is supposed to operate, or if I need to go to the junkyard and get a "new" used one..

Thanks for your thoughts in advance!

Doug

That light is supposed to stay on with the key on once you hit the button. Sounds like the switch is all that's bad. Auto parts stores have replacement mirrors, I think they usually work well and aren't all that much money.

negative on the auto parts stores, they all direct me to the dealer.

So, then if I understood you correctly, you are saying that when the truck is running, if I push the button, it should stay latched in an remain "ON" ?

Will the button actually stay recessed a bit when latched? I'm guessing that the catch has broken on mine?

When I press it, it turns green, but it won't stay when I push it.

Anyone? Again thanks...

Yep, It's supposed to latch "on" and stay recessed.

I installed (http://www.whitenight.com/) on the back hitch on my truck and will turn them on if tailgater has his lights on bright. They are bright and that usually gives them a clue to back off lol

I had a pair of 1000W facemelters on the back of my pre-runner for tailgaters for the same reason. But I'm all grown up now!

I have noticed a lot more light splash directed upwards on newer cars, which is odd because I want it ahead and on the ground where it belongs. I dip my side mirrors on the highway anymore and use the convex mostly for changing lanes.

I just checked my switch and it stays pushed in and lit with the Key ON.

So I took the mirror apart last night and found that there is a micro switch soldered onto a circuit board. Pretty complex mirror!
Anyways, my switch is bad, and while it works when pushed in, it won't stay in. So, I pushed it in, and tied it closed with some fishing line. Now that I think of it I should/could have used a little tiny tye-wrap...
Anyways, it's on all the time now, so we'll just go with that for the time being...
