Rattling inside the cab, driving me nuts

For about the last month I've noticed a tapping or rattling noise coming from behind the glove box area. I've taken everything apart, tied up all the wiring, tightened bolts, and check everything out to see what could be making noise. Its still makes noise after doing all that. I also emptied out the glove box, Packed it full, and today I removed the box to see if it was the cause. Since I removed the glove box, the noise is not as bad, but it still comes and goes when I drive down the highway. And from the begining this noise comes and goes depending on how the road is. Anyone else ever have something similar to the noise coming from behind the glove box? If so I'd like some advice, its getting kinda annoying.

I'm not married so I don't have to worry about that yet.

I have a bad rattle down around the E-brake pedal.
I thought it was the e-brake but I've secured it every way possible and have yet to stop or even dampen the rattle.

This may be a long shot but take a look at the fender liners, the stock plastic rivets wear out causing the liners to rattle. You can buy a whole box of about twenty at an auto paint and body supply store. I believe there are nine rivets per side.

Thanks Dodgepower79, I didn't even think of it being the wheel well liners. I'll take a look at them later today to see if they are loose

Blue3quarter, I think I know exactly what you're talking about. My truck has a rattle/vibration that seems to come from the glove box area also. It sounds similar to an oil/fuel pressure gauge rattle. Don't have a clue what it is though.

Both of my inner fenders have come loose, and now have been "modified" by the tire. I've replaced the fasteners, but now they look funny.

Yeah, thats exactly the same sound mine is making. I did check my inner fenders and the passenger side was a little loose and fixed it with new fasteners and i'm still getting the noise. If i can't find it maybe i'll just turn the radio up a little more.

I had a rattle like that and it was the plastic piece just below the windshield wipers. the rivets came loose and it was the rivets rattleing. Now I got a kind of a squeak in my steering column but I think it may be my auto shift handle??

I had an annoying rattle that took a while to find.
It was the passenger side seat belt buckle. The plastic around it was rattling when unbuckled.
Sound was bouncing against door an dash, and was hidden by center console. seemed to come from glovebox area too.

That sounds like the same noise I had in my 1st gen 93 CTD. In that truck they called them COWL CRACKS and I lived with that god-forsaken rattling noise for years! You wanna hear what's funny about that tho?? It only rattled when it was above freezing and below about 60 degrees (which around here means you're going to have to get used to this rattle). I'M NOT KIDDING EITHER!! Otherwise, the temps made the metal move and made it so it wouldn't rattle. BUT TALK ABOUT FRUSTRATING....
Ya, I'd rather deal with the human rattle in the seat than trying to find something that comes and goes with the changing outside temps.
Oh, what could that be in a 2nd gen? One thing I do know....and that's that your problem is probably NOT A COWL CRACK!! But I'll forward no known antidote for that here and instead just wait for it to manifest itself in my truck.
