Kelly Blue Book says $15,085 private party deal in Glenolden, PA. That's per your description and an auto trans w/ short bed & nearly all the goodies and in excellent condition. Only the top 5% are considered excellent condition. Trade-In value is $12,550 & Suggested Retail is $17,740.
Since you've helped him (that should count for something) and he might trade it in...offer him what the dealer does. The dealer will still knock-off some bucks even without a trade-in. It's a win-win deal. He gets trade-in value and a nice straight buy discount.

Actually from what I read (can't remember where) Alberta is only second to Texas in North America for the most trucks sold, When I bought mine the going rate was 18+, as for a lemon I don't think so, I bought it to use as a work truck, you run your truck 8-10hrs a day 5 days a week for 6months, and see what you spend in repair costs! My truck gives a new meaning to daily driver. I'm guessing if my truck was used for personal use I would have needed almost nothing. but as a courier/Hotshot truck it gets used, likely I move 2000-6000lbs of freight a day. I was expecting when I bought the truck that it would need a tranny and an IP, as it according to the owner, the only things ever replaced on the truck were the brakes (300,000Kms on orginal equipment) the Cummins has not failed me to date

Update...the numbers between my neighbor and I have been $8,500 and $10,000. I think he got lowballed for a Trade in at a dealer and would rather let me have it.
I told him the 09 Dodge's looked real nice from what I've seen and maybe he should hold on to his truck another year or so. At that time it'll probably have 34,000 miles on it..lol
The few reasons I'm not all that excited about it (don't get mad)
1) it's Red...
2)wow are those engines loud!
3)actually after owning a Diesel for 20 years...I'm tired of such a big heavy truck not to mention the price of Diesel fuel is out of hand anymore...in my area .80 cents higher than regular grade gas. I'm thinking about a new F150 4x4 4-door 6.50 bed Lariat loaded.
4)if I did buy his truck...and turned around and sold it for profit this may hurt his fellings ...I've known him all my life, a dear friend he is to me.
I'll see what happens.

If you dont buy, I'm willing to bet there are lots of guys here that are willing to drive across a couple of states to buy it!
BTW I dont think the F150 is as good on fuel as the 24V is at least my 24V blows my neighbours 2004 F150 outta the water as far as mileage goes...but then again a new truck is nice (too bad its a Ford thats tugging at your heart strings!)
Good luck no matter which way you go

There's a 98.5 with a 12V on Ebay with no reserve. It's down in Florida. If I didn't already have my truck I would sure go for that one. Got a camper shell on it and lower miles than mine.

No arguments that for their size and weight the older 3/4 and 1 Ton Diesels get very good fuel mileage. I know, I've had my 1988 7.3 F250 Super cab 4x4 since new! It now has 180,000 on the clock, still looks almost new, and NEVER caused me any hardship, the BEST vehicle I've owned period! However due to owning it for 20 years(just tired of it) and fuel prices it's for sale.
Back in the day Diesel fuel was always much cheaper than regular grade gas...this hasn't been the norm for years now.
I don't really need the pulling power of a Diesel anymore (never really did). I first bought my Diesel truck 20 years ago because fuel WAS cheap, and for the same size Truck they got better mileage than their gas engine counterpart>(460/454) and, the older Diesel engines ran forever with very to no drama!
Again...the price alone of Diesel fuel is much higher in my area, it will NEVER be less than regular grade gas again. Filling my current Diesel with fuel is quiet painful especially since I never work the Truck as it should be, as a daily driver it's killing me.
For me, I think a (new) much quieter F150 supercrew gas engine that runs on the much cheaper regular grade gas could be the way to go...It will get at least 13/15 local and 18/21 hwy...same as my F250 but right now some .80 cents a gallon less.
*But then again...ya never know...there very well could be a Red(yuck) 99 Dodge Cummins in my driveway some day soon.

Nickg, I'm familiar with working trucks but your list of fix its seems too long to me. My dad used to work heavy construction and I have multiple friends who run freight with CTDs and none of them every did that much maintenance on their trucks in such a short period of time . . .
Hammerdown, I'll buy a plane ticket, fly out there. Buy it from him for $10.5k cash, give you $1000 and drive it home tomorrow. I'm not kidding or joking around here. If you want to make some money, pm me. I like my 98 but its got over 200k mi on it.

Also Don knows after 20 years of me owning my F250 Diesel I was on the hunt for something else...so this is when he offered me his Dodge.
What he does is entirely up to him, but I'll mention to him a few here are showing interest and if he wants me to pass his phone number on I'll send it via PM. I personally would find it difficult to make any money on the Truck as I mentioned prior he's known me all my life>50 years. He's 83 and almost like a father heck, I spend more time with him than my own farther.

that's similar to my deal...I paid $21.7K all said and done (inc. tax, tag etc...) for my '01 Sport LB with 26K miles on it...that was this past July, truck was is excellent shape and bone stock!
