I used an old socket extension with a bfh, and plenty of PB Blaster. Just don't hammer to long on any single bolt. If you have some old bolts that you could swap in for this it may be better, or you may need new ones when you are done.

Well I got them off. I had to do the power steering trick while beating on them with a sledge. The bearings seem fine even after all the abuse but I think I will change them anyways. I envy anyone who lives where they don't salt the roads.

Yep, used to live there, moved away for work. Want to go back, but the wife doesn't.

What trick are you guys talking about? I just replaced one of my front rotors, I can't get the hub bolts out on the other side, already sheered off 2 3/8" to 1/2" adapters because I don't have a 1/2" drive 9/16" socket...I think I'm gonna have to go get one. And I can't get the Hub nut off the Pass. side, I mean I'm 240 and I'm jumping on an 18" breaker bar with the 1 11/16" socket on the (&*# thing and it won't move, I've hit it with PB Blaster quite a few times too and still can't get it...

You back out the 4, 12point bolts and brace a socket and extension against the frame. Then use the power steering to turn the knuckle into the socket so the socket presses against the 12pt bolt, and presses the hub out. This can be dangerous with the truck running up on jackstands above your head, so safety is your responsibility.

As far as the axle nut... I ground through one side to just before making contact with the threads. Then, split it with a chisel. It came off by hand then.

This was on a 2001. Yours may be different.

Man...My hub popped right off, I just had to pound on the rotor (I was replacing it anyways) with a rubber mallet... Good trick tho I guess.

I feel your pain. Had the same exact problem with mine. I finally ended up getting a 3/4" drive bar, put another 4 foot cheater pipe on it. PB blaster, heat and repeat method. It finally came loose.... and took the shaft threads with it! Had to buy another knuckle/spline/shaft combo for it. Luckily i picked it up (100 mile drive) for 100 bucks at a wreckin yard. Good luck with that axle nut!

The axel nut was the only easy part of this job. My impact took it off no problem. I did soak it in PB a few days before though.
