I have a 9' plow on my 97. I replaced the factory springs with the D25's also.
They hold the weight of the plow very well. Being a club cab, and having a 100 gal transfer tank against the front of the bed puts a little extra weight on the front axle also.
The truck will handle it, just make sure you run some kind of ballast in the bed as said before, and you will be fine.

My Buddy has a 98 12v that he uses every year for snow plowing and salting. Truck has just under 200k and so he is on his second track bar as on fall of last year. he puts two 2500 pounds skids of salt in the bed and drives areound like that during the winter. He also has a 3" lift on the truck.

I bought mine (1997) new off the dealer lot with the plow package. I assume the factory set it up that way(?)

At any rate I have a couple of questions for those who posted to this question- it was stated a "fluid to fluid heat exchanger" is this for the auto tranny fluid- I was not clear on that?

Also as far as the LARGE alternator goes...at 120 amps it really isn't all that big. Considering the amount of power the grid heaters (engine manifold) pull (when on- in cold temps) I'm surprised the alternator isn't larger? Anybody source a better- bigger alternator in the aftermarket?

And...Just how much heaver is the CTD, compared to the V8 and V10 options?

The engine wiegh about 1000-1100 lbs with all the accessories (A/C, alternator, etc.).

The fluid to fluid heat exchanger is just that. Look underneath and behind the turbo. You will see a barrel shaped object. The are several lines going to it. Coolant feed and return and Tranny fluid feed and return. Its a nice efficient cooler, plus there is also the normal air to fluid cooler in front of the radiator.

O/K I don't want to beat this to death but I found the factory window sticker for my 97...no I wasn't looking for it...but any way:

Listed "Snow Plow Prep- Heavy Duty"
Then under that it lists the following as part of this package:
Extra Duty Front Suspension
Trans Overheat Warning Light
Heavy Duty Transfer Case

Further down it lists "Heavy Duty Service Group" under this it lists a "136 Amp alternator" (and other items like extra cooling, trans cooler and skid plate)

I thought this was interesting since every replacement one that I looked at was only 120 Amp?
