paint is wanting to peel

I have a 96 dodge and the paint is now starting the early signs of peeling. Has any one else had this problem in the 96's and does anyone know if Dodge will do anything about it.

Re:paint is wanting to peel

Have a dodge body shop check it out do whats called a "tape test" some times when they paint trucks the primer sets up too fast and the paint dont stick to the primer...very slim chance that they will cover a repaint free of charge but its worth a try.... ???

I did a net search on that once and I found that all the manufacturers have had problem with paint since they had to conform to stricter EPA regulation. The primer is not as good as it used to be.

From what I gathered if you raise enough stink and then threaten to take them to small claims court they will usually agree to pick up half the tab. Maybe all depending on the circumstances.

Search the net for peeling paint and see what you come up with, many manufacturers have had what was known as "secret warranties" on this problem. An hour or two might save you a big chunk of money.

Farmboy, if you have the time and the energy, here is a possible solution: http://peelingpaint.homestead.com/

The paint peeled from my '94 starting a few months after I got it. DC repainted "as required". Now, the paint is peeeling again.
george

My son has my old truck that is a 96 CTD that is peeling on the roof just behind the window strip and on the forward door
angled vertical surface. I sent him the web site mentioned above. He's going to look into it. He had plans to repaint before it turned to rust down here. Primer seems to be holding real good. He keeps a liberal helping of wax on the spots all the time.

His e-mail address is WillBHaw@Cs.Com

Truck has 207,000 miles on it. Its in the shop now getting two new lower ball joints and a idler arm.

Dave
