overload springs question
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My '02 2500 2wd has single leaf overload springs on each side and a rear sway bar. My friends have a '98 and '01 2500 2WD SLT trucks with double overload leaf springs each side. Was there a change in 2002 or is this an option? Did the camper option offer the rear stabilizer and single leaf overloads?

My 98 camper pack came with a rear SB and double overloads above the reg spring pack. If your packing a camper nothing beats air bags. After I put mine in it was night and day, even better than my old Chebby with training wheels.

Here's a pic of my "camper package" spring pack
The only thing that isn't stock is the short add-a-leaf shown in the 2nd pic
Rear sway bar is sitting on the side of the garage, therefore can't be seen in the pics

Phox_Mulder, thanks for the pix. Did you have the room for the extra leaf with your stock Ubolts? How does the shorty add-a leaf feel without a load? I'm considering the same.
Ratsun, Dont have a camper yet. Still looking for a slider. Will look into bags as I've heard nothing but good things about them.

I had another DTR member stop by my place the other day (he too has a 02 SB) and I noticed he also only had a single overload spring. Do you know when they changed from 2 to1 spring or was it that short boxs only got singles? My 98 has 2 but my truck is a long box is that why maybe or.....? Not to big of a deal just wondering is all

Very harsh ride, IMHO. A long add-a-leaf is a softer ride I've been told.
I'll never have a camper, so I removed the rear anti-sway attempting to soften the ride up a bit,
very small improvement though.

Based on DC's track record, I would bet they changed from 2 to 1 to save a little money.

I have a 2000 2wd with just 1 over the top.sway bay. It also has the short spring with rubber bumpers under the spring pack. This truck does have the tow/camper package with the sway bar.
A friend has a 2001 4X4 with the same set up as mine.

mojo, my 97 didnt have any rear sway bar or overloads. i ended up buying the whole package from a rebuilder of wrecked dodge trucks(balsleysauto.com??). so, i was able to get the dual overloads, swaybar, links , longer u bolts ,and all for like $100. most auto supply houses can have new , longer u bolts made to your specs for pretty cheap if you dont come across a complete package. and, my truck rode no different than before when unloaded (except i found myself going faster thru the corners) - and didnt affect unloaded ride height. the only difference was when i loaded it down with mucho weight - it sat really level.

I think somewhere around truck year 01.5 or 02, dodge shortened spring blocks and adjusted over load springs so the trucks would not sit to high in the rear. To many complaints about 5th wheels not clearing the bed. I have the camper package with 2 overload springs, early 01.
