Oil in exhaust manifold

I bought a 01 2500 with 125,000 miles, 5.9L 24 Valve Cummins Turbo Diesel, Automatic 4sp w/ electronic overdrive, 4x4, Quad Cab, SWB SLT Lariat last October. lost power, engine started clicking and started blowing white smoke. Pulled Turbo and saw oil coming from exhaust manifold. even I know that this is not good.....

my questions,
1. day before the engine went, I had the oil changed. could they of done something to cause this? oil level is fine.

2. engine work of this caliber is way above my skill level, is this worth doing on a engine of this age ( low miles). . still owe the bank a lot of money on this truck. Mechanic I spoke too over the phone said it probably wasn't worth the money to overhaul....

what do you all think?

Valve seats, piston rings, head gasket.

Hope for the latter.

When I pulled the turbo off of the exhaust pipe, oil came pouring out of the connection. If the Turbo oil seal blew, could a bunch of oil have been sucked back into the exhaust manifold? And now when I try to start it, which it won't do very easily, could that be Forcing the oil that got sucked in back out? There is no play in the turbo shaft at all and it spins freely. if it is the turbo, anyone recommend a good rebuild source?

I would pull the valve cover and inspect all the valves, look for one that might have dropped.

I would definitely say the truck is worth putting an engine in, perhaps not rebuilding that one, unless it isn't too bad, but 24V engines aren't that expensive.

You might look to see if we have any members close or a chapter, might be an experienced set of eyes that could help you. Most mechanics don't know enough about these to fool with them.
