oddball vehicle speed sensor?

OK, I went to replace the VSS on my '95 1 ton 2wd, and the one that Dodge ordered isn't what mine has. I described mine to them (and several other people) and they've never seen or heard of the one mine uses. Mine has the old style speedo gear holder in the tailshaft, with threads for a speedometer cable in the center. Now here's the oddball vss; it has a short (approx 8" long) speedometer cable screwed to the speedo gear holder, then the other end of this cable housing had external threads that thread into the VSS. it just kinda hangs in mid-air, held up by the stiffness of the housing the cable rides in. The vss its self is approx 1 1/4" dia and 2 - 2 1/4" long (not counting the 8" cable), shaped like a small can and wires coming out of the end with the 3 prong Dodge plug factory molded to them.
OK guys, if it's not a Dodge part, what is it off of??? The cable's frayed and snapped off and I have no idea where to get a replacement. I can't afford to go to mopar and buy every single part to put it all back to factory.
I did put a new speedo gear in it once, and a '95 wouldn't fit, but a ( i think) '94 or '93 did. This truck once had a gear vendors OD installed and I'm wondering if it was a vss that came with that. I emailed them to find out... hopefully they can help.

If anyone has the complete assy gathering dust, I'd be interested in buying it!

Jeremy, check out rock auto AIRTEX / WELLS Part # 5S4684 shown under a 95 Dodge 1 ton, looks to be a replacement for obsolete units? I posted the alternate/OEM cross so maybe you can get the number off your old ones? This one bolts to the trans, but has an extension pigtail to make up the distance.

Alternate/OEM Part Number(s): 4707386, 4707389, 4882463, 5013660AA, 5130660AA, 5234422, 56027825, 56027905, 56028183, SU394

i went ahead and ordered all the parts from dodge to get rid of this monstrosity. I looked at rock auto and the ones they show for my truck look just like the one from dodge. I had to order that, a new speedo pinion gear, and the pinoin gear housing. I'm thinking about taking a jar of vaseline with me when I go to pay for all of that. :P

I figure that the cost of getting the speedometer working is still cheaper than getting ANOTHER speeding ticket.
