Talking Newbe here Just got 95 Ram Turbo Diesel

Man I love this thing. 95 dodge Ram 2500 Reg Cab, Long Bed , 2wd, Cruise, Power Windows and Door locks, power seats, Great Silver paint.

Only 57,000 miles. Owner used it for fishing! Towed his little boat. was in Northern Az it whole life.

Clean inside and out..even under the hood and bottom. Not shiney just detailed but just clean and a little dusty.

I have a lot of questions but will read here for a while to get the easy ones answered.

Bye for now, Dave in Az.

Sounds Like a good truck. What did ya pay for it? That thing has to be very clean and hardly used, heck it isnt even broken in yet!

Welcome aboard, a word of advice, if you have a question on something feel free to ask but do a quick search first, you surely find an answer in the search. Constatly repeated questions get old and annoying to some, im not innocent though, i didnt realize the search for a couple of days. Its just F Y I.
happy hunting!!

I paid $9000. Seller would not budge an inch.

I have been on other boards..I try to search and not ask "what that knocking sound?" "what's that smell" "can I go to Jiffy Lube?"

I have 25 years on German cars as a mechanic (I started before we were techs). Worked on VW Diesels a little.....100 or so head gaskets...ect. I am new to a real Diesel ..Cummin's.

My first questions revolve around warm up and shut off...use on shorts trips being bad? ect. But I will read a few days first.....

See Ya Later..Dave

Nice find ...well worth the 9 grand ...See if you can find out if your KDP was done ...it would be shame to have it come out on such a nice find !

I went back wards from a brand new ford that totally sucked ...to a 1996 dodge 12valve and made a great choice ...it's the best truck I ever owned and you will be very happy with your choice !

Good luck

Greg

Welcome
Make sure you take care of the KDP right away.
It can sure ruin a good day.
Read info on the problem and buy a kit here http://www.tstproducts.com/index.asp...PROD&ProdID=64

infidel...Thanks for the tip..doesn't look too hard to do...the photo's were great. OK first thing on my list after changing all fluids. Just loked at the area on my truck and it is not even dirty!!

I can not check with the previous owner for this repair as he passed away several days after the sale.

Hmm.. 95 is a good year? I like mine but Ive nothing to compare it to here. The only downside that I can see is the 160hp pump. Course this one has been up in salt hell so Im constantly cutting and welding panels and junk.
Youll probably want to do something with the transmission in the future if its an auto.

best way to warm up these trucks is to hop in and drive... if it's an automatic, start it up, and put it in neutral while you put on your seat belt, set your radio station/climate control, etc. dodge trannies don't pump fluid to the converter in park...

you're not going to build any heat in the engine just idling, better to just drive it...

unless you're really wailing on it, no real need to cool it down...

welcome to the cummins, i'm new to it all myself, but love my truck. If you are worried about cool down just do as i did and get a cool down timer. They are cheap and its peace of mind.

Id just wait 30secs with average driving, and a minute if youve just been on the throttle hard for cooldown. An EGT guage will tell you whats goin on in there, but non-synth oil cokes up around 400F+ I think. keep shutting down hot and after awhile crud could build up in the turbo since its hot and the oil isnt circulating with the motor off. cooldown gives it time to spin down while the oil is circulating too. Turbo timer isnt a bad idea if youd like to hop out of the truck and go when you park.
