New Truck (good deal or not?)
Hey Ya'll
I'm a newbie....1st post. I just wanted to say hello to everybody, and see if you think that I got a good deal on my latest toy.
It's a '01.5 2wd quad cab with a lil' over 250k miles. It's an odd color kind of a burnt orange.
I picked it up for $4,500
Overall it's in good shape, but It did have a 5th wheel mounted at some time. I'm sure it's been worked hard, but I figure she's still got some life in her.

The truck runs great, but it does let out a good bit more white smoke on a cold start than I'm used to seeing with my past cummins and powerstrokes. I'm putting a Holley Blue pump and vulcan big line kit on this weekend. Then I'll adjust the valves. Hopefully that will clear some of that smoke up. The underbody has a good bit of oil and grime built up on it. I'm still trying to figure out where that came from as I can't detect any leaks or significant blow-by. Other than than it runs great and the 5-speed tranny shifts like new...
As far as Mods go I'll try to keep it under 500hp, but you know how that goes....
Here is a pic from the car lot that I bought it from...

Looks pretty clean.
You might do a search on the "puke bottle" that oil and grime is peobabally just engine blowby.
I'd also put a FP gauge on it, that is the weak link on the 24v engine.

That seems like a super good deal for a nice truck. I wish I could have found something like that when I was shopping because I would have been all over it. That color is really cool too - I don't think I have ever seen a 2nd gen that color before?

Thanks!
I found it on EBAY
Made the guy an offer and he ended the auction early. Guess it was my lucky day. I think he would have made a lot more money off the truck if he had rode it on out...
P.S. this was the best I could come up with for my first posts...lol
I think almost every question I could have come up with for you guys has already been covered....gotta love the search function.

Wow. That's a really good deal IMO.
As for the oil leak. Try cleaning underneath as best you can, then look between the vacuum pump and power steering pump after driving. See if you can see a drip at the shaft. The seal in the vacuum pump is a very common leak. The oil will get blown ALL OVER the place under there. You can get a repair kit at www.fixinrams.com
