Just purchased 2001 Dodge 2500 4 X 4 Cummins quad cab 170,000 miles - $6,300 Great Condition
Questions: What's the best oil to run? Do I need to do anything special with the 4 wheel drive to keep it operating properly (normally driver in 2 wheel drive)? Needs new tires - any suggestions (money is a factor)?
Thanks in advance!

Welcome to DTR
Asking about which oil to run is about as popular here as asking The Dixie Chicks to perfom in Crawford, TX.
You can do a search and have hours of reading about the "oil wars".
Not trying to stiffle conversation, just trying to help you avoid a blood bath.

Put some RoSmella in it. Good stuff. (Rotella T 15W40) Walmart will put it in for you. I go 150 hours of engine time between changes. It stinks a little when you first put it in. If you leave the A/C on recirculate you won't smell it.
I like it because it clear and not dark in color like Delo or some other oils. My hummin Cummins has 160k on it and still goes 4000 miles or more before the oil ever starts to turn colors. If it goes dark quick, I know I have a problem.
