New doors rust proofing?

Ok, I'm replacing the doors on my 98 Quad with new ones. The question is what to I do to try to rust proof them on the inside and out before painting?

Clean the inside of any dirt, oil or preservatives and paint the inside. Take care not to plug the drain holes at the bottom, but make sure they are coated with paint. They are usually the starting point of rust.

Paint your doors then spray this on the inside. I used this on the inside of my doors ten years ago and still no rust. It forms a wax like coating that flows into cracks and tight areas. The best protection for the outside of the doors is mud flaps and running boards.

paraffin-based underbody sprays might be the best thing for the door innards. Ive tried other methods and nothing has seemed to help as well.
I would also look at spraying some in the rear fender arches, up in the front fenders and the rocker panels. You can find body plugs and remove lights to get to those spots.

I don't know where you live but my truck has had flapps and running boards on it since new.

I have absolutely no rock chips, abrading of the paint, or signs of rust in my doors and under the cab.

I was going to remove them the first day I had the truck but noticed how good the paint was along the rockers. My 01 Chevy had 45K and almost sand blasted thru the paint behind the wheels, front and rear.

The runners also keep the jambs dry in the rain.

Just a thought, not everyone likes running boards.

I have to throw my 2 cents in on this. My truck came with running boards, mud flaps, and fender flares, 6 years ago. I noticed a tiny bubble on the rocker a little bit after I bought it, and now the rocker is all but gone, as well as the front fender on drivers side along the door jamb side. Above wheel wells on the rear are also rotting, and I contribute it all to the fender flares/running boards. The boards had a rubber flap that set up against the rockers, keeping all the salt and crud in. So choose wisely.

Funny thing is, the frame has just a few spots of rust on it, other then that and the springs it looks better than most 3 or 4 year old trucks in this area.

Yea, in high salt areas any rock chip or abrasion that goes into the metal is going to rust and grow. Running boards and flaps stop the majority of rock chips but can also cause problems if they rub or hold dirt against the paint. When I installed my mudflaps I sealed them to the body with silicone to keep out the dirt. That being said, i don't live in a high salt area so that helps a lot.
