My brake hose blew

This morning I woke up and my front right brake hose decided to split on me and leave me stuck. So I called around to find a replacement hose and the only place that has it is the dealership, only they want $900 and some change for it. I asked the parts guy if it came with the rest of the truck and he couldn't tell me cause he would have to order it as well.

So I went and picked up some fuel injection line since that could stand up to some pressure and stuck that on there with a couple hose clamps on each side and they won't hold for nothin. So now I'm out of ideas, anyone have any quick fixes to get my rig back on the road?

Just found this .http://pro.dodgepartspro.com/buy.php...c&make_code=DG

You mean the hose that connects the caliper to the diverter block on the frame? Id just get a set of braided steel lines from someone like goodrich. Theres a guy on ebay that sells them, I think it was hoerk racing? Anyhow, they were real helpful in finding the right ones for the truck. I think they were 80 bucks or so, and theyre better quality than the stock rubber.
If you mean the solid lines, theres not much to be done except to either replace the line from end to end unless you can get a small section and a couple unions in there. Its not hard to do. youll need a double flaring tool and a little practice with it before you do the replacement.

yeah I was talkin about the rubber flex hose from the caliper to that block. I didnt think about the braided steel though, might give that a shot. Just bought some pipe sealer good up to 1000 psi, if that doesn't hold than the braided steel is goin on next, thanks

hey kawi, any chance you remember the fitting size needed on both ends of that braided steel line? Searched through the service manual and didn't find a thing. Also I tried to track down hoerck racing on ebay and didn't find anything, just a bunch of lines for harleys and the like.

I just looked thru my receipts. its http://stores.ebay.com/HOERR-RACING-...8Q2em118QQtZkm. they run an ebay store. You can probably get them in other places like summit and jegs too.
The fittings.. hrmm, I dont know what the heck these are. If you get to crimping a brake line, the shop should know what ends you need.
Id never replace with a stock rubber line unless I couldnt avoid it. Theyre usually more spongy under load compared with braided lines.
I bought lines, calipers and a new master but it got too cold to install them so theyre waiting in the basement.
Id strongly recommend against driving with a repaired hose. your front brakes are most of your stopping power. its just too dangerous to take a chance on a hacked repair. The pressure can be in the range of 2000 psi I think.
Oh yeah.. its a safe bet to get new calipers. the stock ones will most likely have frozen bleeder screws. ask how I know! =(.

Checked out Rockauto and they have the line I need for $30! Gonna try the steel braided line approach first and if I can get somethin goin tomorrow then I'm gonna order from rockauto.

Also, if you type turbodiesel in the coupon box you get %5 off.
rockauto is the only place I get my parts from. I like being able to pick the manufacturer I want. Also, 9 times out of 10 I get a better part for cheaper than the auto stores around here.

That's ridiculous. I paid 38.99 for one and had to go to the dealer for the other one. It was 37.56. Got the receipts right in front of me. Don't know what your parts guy is smoking.

Thats what I figured but I called both dodge dealerships in town and got the same price. Also went to a brake shop to see what they have and they said they'd have to special order it, then gave me a price of $800 or so. Either way, I got a new one comin in from rockauto tomorrow that was $27.99. Maybe dodge has my name flagged and are out to get me! A couple places in town quoted me around $35 but they kept gettin my rig mixed up with the 2wds and when I kept pushin that its a 4wd they told me they don't have it and can't get it.

$900 for a breke hose, someone is on drugs or on the take. One or the other. EGR has all the parts you need too.
