Motor Surge Problem, no check engine light on...
I have a 2002 Ram 2500 (5.9L HO) bout 140,000 miles on it and I noticed the an unstable RPM's while travelling at higway speed (60+) and I can feel a surge as well. This happens whether the cruise control is on or off, while towing and when unloaded, also weather (temps or otherwise) doesn't appear to be a factor. I don't notice surges or unstable RPM when at country road speeds (40-50mph), or when going through the city. When I start the truck I always wait for the RPM's and voltage meter to stabalize after the block heater is done doing its thing.

The first response to this type of question is usually check your APPS for the correct resistance or un hook the batteries for an hour and let it wind down.
This type of surging at higher rpm's can also be the vp44 going south, but I'd try unhooking the bats to reset the APPS first.

sorry, I don't understand what the "APPS" is, or the "vp44" can you explain what they are, where they are located (if applicable) and what they do? Thanks... I am kinda an engine idiot.
