"MIL" on cold start

I bought a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 with a CTD yesterday. After fueling the MIL light came on and stayed on until I shut the truck down for about 5 mintues then restarted. The WAIT light may have been on when I started it the first time.

This morning when it was around 40 degrees I started it and the MIL light came on again. Once again after shutting down, waiting a bit and restarting the light went out. The light comes on for the light check before you start it but when it has messed up the light stays on after the check.

Any ideas as to why this happens or how to access the codes?

Thanks

Turn the key on and off 3 times. Leave it on the last time and in you'll see the codes pop up in the odometer.
