Well the time has come to get a diesel truck (RV is bigger now) and I have found a local used truck. It's an 2001 3500 Extended cab 4x4.

My question is what to look for or what to lookout for?

Mileage
Motor issues
Is an 01 not the best year to look at?
I am also looking into running it part-time on SVO or WVO.

Well, first of all welcome to the site. There is tons of good info here on this site that will help you with anything you want to do to the truck. Just becareful of the bombing bug because it is addictive.

The biggest thing to check out would be the fuel pressure to make sure that the fuel pump isn't toast. Other then that you could look to see if it is a "53" block as these have given some people problems.

Once you get one theres some minor upgrades you would probably want to make but other wise the 2nd generation trucks I think are pretty good. Besides checking out the pump I'd smell the oil make sure it dosent smell burnt start it up it should start almost instantly after turning the key. And check for rust. obviously theres going to be some. But if its got alot (like mine) you may run into trouble later if you do youor own maintance. If not, well its someone elses problem then isnt it Anyway welcome to the forum, good luck, and dont hesitate to ask us anything.
