looking for advice on where to attach a fuel pressure guage on a 2001.5
I've searched and searched but only found info on the 99s which has a metal cover on the fuel filter. Is there somewhere else I can attach a non permanent pressure gauge similar to the 99's where its just a plug tapped in the top of the fuel filter. After reading every thing about the Lift pumps, I'm a little worried and would like to check this before the warranty runs out.
thanks in advance.

Steve,
Yes, you can get an adapter to tie into the schrader valve on the VP44. Put it on the end of a grease gun hose then tie in to your gauge. You should really be checking WOT pressure so I would suggest installing your permanent FP gauge FIRST if you have a couple of hours to spare. It is well worth your time!

The Schrader valve on the injection pump is the same fitting as the old R12 air conditioning ports. I used an old charging kit hose and cut it off at the valve. I connected the hose to a hose barb fitting with a clamp and screwed that into a gauge. It works great. The only expense was the guage.

what is the negative re****ing attaching a fp gauge full time to the shrader valve? No one seems to do this and I wonder why?

I have mine attached there. It's been on the truck for over a year. I had a small leak once, at the fitting. I found the fitting had vibrated loose. I tightened it and have had no problems since. If any others have had problems, I'd like to know too.

That is the test port the dealer uses when they do a fuel pressure test.
I personally would leave that valve open so the dealer has less to give you any flak about.

I second what Phox said about leaving that port open for dealer use. I used a tapped banjo bolt on the bottom of the fuel filter cannister (there a several places you can get those and I think they are only a few bucks). That leaves both ports open for dealer/mechanic use and is still post filter. Leaving that port open also allows you to occassionally check your permanent gauge for accuracy. It is also a little farther away from the vp44 and its incessant pulsations.

Thanks for the great advice guys. I only came across this site less than 2 weeks ago and have learnt more in those 2 weeks than I have after owning the truck for almost 3 years.
