Actually it is quite simple Just take the steering column out, disconnect all the wires from the dash, take the bolts out at the windshield, loosen the bottom bolts, take the dash out. Now you are almost done, just drop the air conditioning and disconnect the heater/air unit and remove it.

Actually you can try to get it out with the unit in the truck, but it is tight and not too pro.

See isn't that easy, now just put it all back together again. I really enjoyed doing mine

You might want to do the evaporator while you're in there. They're much worse for leaking than the heater core.

you still aint put that core in yet? You must find the waterfall sound effect from within the dash calming, and a peaceful, soothing end to an otherwise rotten day!!

Well the core is in! Wasn't a bad job, just time consuming. My oe D/C book just said take the dash and disconnect all the electrical connections. To me that means take everything out of the dash, that's what I did but didn't need to for the method of core removal I chose. I got the dash wired up to the pass grab handle and looked long and hard at the whole procedure of removal to change that P O S core and I decided to just cut the lines and have a union under the dash. And for you critical folks out there yes the claps are good and tight as a matter of fact I used silicone heater hose. I post an update if they leak!!!!!!

UHHH-OHHH, I Seem to be missing something here. I have the babbling brook from under the dash, but I did not think that there was anything wrong, that the sound was normal. Is this something I need to be looking into?????? Not that I need another problem with my truck!

Don't worry to hard there is a TSB for the babbling brook noise... My Mom's 1996 Dodge RAM has the noise and I don't worry about it. I just make sure the radiator and the bottle are full. As for the green waterfall that is a failed heater core...

Link to the TSB is...

It's all good...

If that ? is for me I work at a parts store (Parts Plus) and get everything for 10% over store cost so I payed $69.15 I think it retails up here for around $125 or so. It's a Godan p/n# 398313. I would imagine that being "down below" you could pick one up for around what I payed for mine. ENJOY!!

Thanks. I have not had any problems with the cooling in terms of overheating or coolant loss, so I am solid there. So far, no green waterfalls either. I understand the difference now. TSB I can live with, waterfalls are another story. Now if I can just keep the fan from smashing into my radiator, that would be nice , but before I get to that, I have to figure why I am pulling so much air into the fuel, the truck barely runs. Had me scared there for minute that I had another problem that I definately do not need.
