lookin at a 2nd gen

hey guys im currently looking at maybe buying a second gen. i now have a 1st gen and im loookin for something a little bigger and with 4x4 what should i look for in my searches what are osme things to look for like issue wise. i know thr trannys one of them. what else

check to see if there is a 53 cast into the engine block on the drivers side near the bottom front they are prone to cracking, the 24 valves 98.5-02 have an elctronic injection pump that is prone to failing and they are expensive to replace, they went to opening back doors in 98 so if you got an early 98 you'd get a twelve valve and opening back doors, and in 2001.5 they went to four wheel disc brakes, also the stock headlights suck

If you're going to tow heavy, get a 2000+, as it has much better brakes than 94-99. It has dual-piston calipers and slip-on rotors. You'r really be happy with a 94-98 12v though, which makes the decision harder. I think I'd rather have the stopping power though.

X2 on the stopping power (it was the main feature that sold me on the '05)

Our winter project - the '98 - desperately needs some sort of brake upgrade... too much pucker in a panic stop!
