keyless entry/alarm
Hi, I bought my 01 3500 used, it has a remote entry fob with a panic button on it that flashes the lights and beeps the horn.
How do I know if the truck has an alarm or remote starter on it.
Can I tell by looking or would I have to push buttons on the fob?
It only has 3 buttons on the one that came with the truck.
1)lock
2)unlock
3)panic
Thanks!

On my 99, the trip, mpg, temp and compass on the top has a red LED light, my owners manual says this is the alarm arming itself when it's blinking, so if you have teh red LED light, you have the alarm system if dodge stayed on course. Or you could also leave your window doown, lock the doors with the remote, wait about 5 mins, and reach inside the truck and open the door, if you hear a bunch or horn honking you have the alarm system

Clint thanks for the reply. I don't have the overhead compass.
If I lock the door with the remote the alarm will automaticaly activate? (if it has one?)
Thanks!

Easy way to tell is be in the truck, lock the doors with the remote, then open the door.
Or, roll the window down, lock with the remote, then reach in and open the door.
That's how my sister found out she had an alarm.
Scared the crap out of her, as she's never had a vehicle with an alarm before.

When I bought my 98.5 remote start was not a option. The remote start I have (viper) requires the use of its own key fobs so the factory ones are moth balled.
IMHO if there the Dodge fobs you dont have a remote start. But maybee someone else has seen it.

Sounds like you have factory keyless entry. You can check for a factory alarm the way some have suggested, open the window, lock the doors with the remote and wait a minute or two, then reach in and open the door using the inside handle. (If you unlock the door with the key it will disarm the alarm if in fact your truck is equipped with it.)
Obviously if the horn starts beeping and the lights flash you have the alarm. If nothing happens it's just RKE.
Sometimes the aftermarket will use a "slave" remote start system that can be activated with the factory transmitters. Try hitting the lock button twice. Watch the parking lights, if they blink twice and the truck starts...well then, you have a remote start. Of course with the CTD there should be a delay built in to allow the glow plugs to warm before cranking.
The only trouble with this system is that your limited to the range of the factory transmitter.
