Checking the temp guage - it seems to be staying down close to the 140 mark.. this seems kinda low?

I also read about checking the heater lines for heat to see if it might be a core blockage, I'll do that one night this week.

Any other suggesions?
What did you find out/do to correct the problem?

I am having a low heat problem with my 96.
The dash is off but I will investigate further before I pull the HVAC module out.
I'll report back the solution when I find it.
By the way, the 96 has two blend doors to close off the heater core that are cable actuated.

if the truck is not reaching temp. then it has nothing to do with controls or doors!! your thermostat is probably stuck open, just like they stated previously. the water rushes through the motor to fast and does not have time to heat up. therefore--NO HEAT.

Well, after driving it a bit - the truck was coming up to temp after all, so no problem there.

It was the heater box flapper door after all - the actuator arm had broken. A little plastic cement and I had it fixed right up (and quite a bit cheaper than a new heater box!).

Thanks for all the help guys

My heater core turned out to be clogged.
In retrospect, the core acts as a kind of filter anyway as most of the coolant is run through there anytime the stat is not open.
A back flush took care of the problem.

where is the "door" located, chased the same problems, changed fan, water pump, thermostat, flushed, still seems slow to heat cab, alls hot but can drive all the time with thermostat all the way over, if i remeber correctly, once the truck warmed you had to pull the temp. to about half, or you would fry.

Check radiator temp with a thermometer if you think you may have a thermostat problem. With coolant cold, temp should be steady or rise slightly until the tstat opens at which time radiator temp should quickly rise to match the temp guage which should match the rated opening temp of the thermostat. This is also a starting point when you suspect engine overheating. If thermostat is working, move on to diagnosing the heating/temp control system.

Here's some more food for thought on thermostats.....

I have an '01 HO with 6speed manual and in its first year it developed a VERY loud noise whenever I pulled my 28' 5th up a long grade. The dealer was stumped until I found the TSB for them. Turns out this problem was very clearly documented in a TSB from Dodge that said to change the thermostat to a different part number. It worked. Unfortunately, it wasn't the first time I had to educate their service? department.

Heater still works great too. You might check out the alternate factory thermostat as a possibility if you need to change yours out. Good luck.
