Installing cd player in 96 with infinity
I just recently picked up a 96, 12V, 5sp, 4x4. It has the infinity sound, but with a cassette deck. I would like to upgrade to a factory cd deck. My question is would the new deck have to be an infinity deck as well or would any cd player from a newer 2 gen ram work? Thanks guys!

Any one will work (provideing the plugs are the same (black+grey)). There may be an extra black/green wire left over and that will need to be grounded to the chassis of the radio. There is no difference in the radios themselves being infinity or not. That year of truck there is an amp on the back of the speaker which is where the difference is. Otherwise it is just a sticker. You can PM me for more help if you like.

I just replaced my fact cass player with a pioneer, got the mounting plate, and the wireing harness all for less than $150.00 Sounded like crap because I could only hook up 4 speakers. The 6-9 in the doors didnt work. dont know if it is possible to hook up 6 speakers when the cd player says 4x50watts. I hooked up my amp and built a new box for my infinity 12 and now it sounds great.

get the adapter from autozone that plugs into the factory harness.....all your speakers will work and sound great...
Its easy and cheap.15-20 bucks.... You just wire the adapter to your new cd player and plug the adapter into the factory gray and black plugs..
I did mine but its a 98 so maybe a litl different but im sure autozone or your local store carries that kinda stuff if not theres always walmart.....

Plugs right in, controlled by the factory radio.
Does yours have this capability?

I like the simple layout of the Infinity radio, most of the aftermarket radios have buttons that are too small and I like the round **** for the volume.
I really haven't found an aftermarket radio that I really like yet.
But I'll keep looking.
Mine has been on the fritz for 2 years now, and it's not getting any better.
Maybe after christmas i'll look around.
