The adapters I got were nothing more than a piece of plastic about 3/16" thick that screwed onto the door and the speaker screwed to that. For depth, the distance is still the same.

What is the mounting depth on the 6 1/2" speakers that you have? I know that there is at least 2 7/8" of depth.

I'm going to go double check the mounting depth tonight......2 5/8" is pushing it but 2 7/8" may just make them work......how sure are you of the 2 7/8" measurement?

Absolutely positive. That is the mounting depth of the Pioneer TS-A6970 and they fit without a problem.

Just make your own adapters out of some 3/4" mdf. There's a lot of room between the metal of the door and the plastic door panel that you can more or less add to the mounting depth that way.

If you are on a budget look at Phoenix Gold Octane-R. Price is very low, and they work great. Lots of good deals on eBay. Or your local discount store, where there you'll get a chance to listen to them.

Everyone else in this thread is correct, worst case on your doors is make your own baffle out of some MDF or plywood, lots of rooom between door and plastic to increase mounting depth.

Good luck with it.

For some odd reason the tweeters in my truck stopped working while i was on the way to work today. When i left this evening, they were trying to work(meaning they would work in short spurts), but finally stopped trying and now nothing. I have the infinity system with an aftermarket JVC stereo. The other four speakers work fine so i dont think it is a problem with the head unit.

i read in this thread that there is a crossover beside the ashtray. can someone tell me what it looks like so i can take a gander at it and make sure its getting power?

anyone have any experience with this sort of problem? The infinity system sounds remarkable good with my head unit so i dont particularly want to tear into it and replace everything.
