...to repair and get it back to good? I'd prefer to have the ignition still match the doors. How much work is involved / can I do it myself / Approx how much will this cost etc.

I went through inshurance , I think it was about 2,300.00 CDN to fix it all . they can match your key with the doors for the new ignition. I feel your pain brother.

$2300 CDN!!

Caper, it's disgusting. Thieves disgust me in the worst way possible. I like the idea of the DPDT switch hooked up to the horn/lights. I imagine the deal with locking the brakes is done with a line lock.

Thankfully my starter contacts are junk as well as my shutoff solenoid's relay I think.

A lock smith that works the car auctions can re-key a new lock. JY may have other parts needed. Theft won't be a chargeable claim (confirm with your agent) so go ahead & file. Doesn't look like they messed with any wiring so shouldn't be difficult. If you file, collect as if you paid retail parts and labor.

That should not be a bad fix looks like you will need to order an ignition switch and the lock cylinder assy the lower cover and possibly the upper if it is damaged. The dealer can key the cylinder the same as the doors from your vin #. Very easy bolt in install look at your picture remove the tilt wheel lever pull off the top cover remove the "tamper proof screws" Torx with a stub in the middle PM me if you don't know how to deal with them.
Then unplug the wiring from old switch plug in the new switch and replace screws about a 10 minuet job.

That doesn't sound too bad of a fix Bob.

I have pulled my injector pump and successfully put it back on, so I feel if I can do that, I'm pretty capable of most anything. I'm just not familiar with how this goes.

I figured since these morons destroy everything in the process, there was no easy way to do it. Is it just a time/laziness thing that causes everything in the path to get ruined?

That's too bad, but you still have the truck. Professional thieves don't make that kind of mess... they also don't leave the truck. You may be able to get all the parts at the wrecker then just rekey the ign lock. good luck.

Wasn't this the truck featured in the pic with the bumper at rest on a phone riser?

1-2-3, yep this is that truck, in the "other" forum.

No, I leave my cars unlocked. It sounds stupid, but I have had my windows smashed out more times than I care to remember (not at this particular house, just in general), so that some crackhead can steal my radio, radar detector, CDs, whatever else. Got tired of replacing my glass AND the contents of my car. If someone wants it, they're GONNA get in, and take it. I'm tired of futzing with broken glass. Less mess I need to clean up.

My Dodge work van ignition switch (tumbler) messed up and we ordered an exact replacement using the vin number. Our old keys still work. I don't remember it being expensive. They might want proof of ownership.

That sucks man. If there was true justice in the world, the first thing you would do to fix this is have the moron(s) that did this either do the work to repair it or pay to have the repairs done, and then grab said moron(s) by the throat and apply pressure until you hear a POP!! Then, with a satisfied feeling in your soul, you can rest knowing that you've done a great service to the world.

Good Luck!!!
