i think i am going to keep my truck

got a new job, more $ and was going to get a new truck (mine has 154K miles) went to the dealership and picked out a 2007 4 door (not MC) 6.7, 6 speed 3500 dually, optioned like i wanted 33,600$ out the door, and they will give me $8,000 for my trade)

530$/month

This got me thinking, i could spend arround $2,500 on my truck and be completely happy....

here is a list of what i need to do to my truck

Heater Core
Dash Top
Dash Front
front end needs all new components, and i probably should do all the u-joints in the axles, driveshafts (spares will be saved for my Jeep)
install 2" spacers, 2" blocks, shocks that i bought last month
replace abs wheel sensor
replace oil pressure sensor

i think i can get this part done for arround $1,100.00 labor, and 1,200.00 parts

but i still need to figure out my rear end hopping under mild accelloration arround 65-75 mph. I am thinking it is the APPS or the TPS, it feels like the drive by wire is on-off-on-off-on, etc. It does it more often when pulling the trailer, but probably only because 65-75 is the speed i drive with my trailer, without the trailer it bounces but i can accellorate through it...

a) any thoughts on keeping my truck as opposed to buying a new one ?

b) any thoughts on the rear hopping/bouncing issue ?

mods listed in my sig

JMHO. If your truck is paid for $530/mo is $6360 a year for how many years?? is a tough pill to swallow. My way of thinking would be to tuck at least $250 mo away for a truck later on. It would still leave you better than $3000 for any up grades or repairs. Even if you have to put a VP-44 in every year you will still be ahead. You could even carry a spare. haha If you don't spend the excess tuck it away too. Come time to get another truck you will have a huge down payment. You are making killer wages, so get on top of the financial band wagon. I wish someone would have steered me that way early on.

I'm not one to pay lot of interest and depreciation so I'd keep the truck. I have a 99 too and I plan on keeping it for a long time. Maybe untill they take my keys from my cold dead hands.

I'd say keep the truck and save your money. As far as the bucking issues check all of your trucks grounds.

Keep it, My dads friend had a 98 24v 4x4 quad cab and just traded for the equivelent with a 6.7 and I think he wishes he didn't do it. He used to get around 23mpg(imperial) and I think now he is getting like 13mpg(imperial). If your tuck is paid for keep it and just fix what needs fixing.

IMHO, keep what you have, fix it when necessary and drive it till the wheels fall off. Invest the difference between repairs and the payment and be financially secure knowing if something breaks (and it will) you can readily fix it and have money working for you instead of the other way around. I'm going to be driving this truck until its not feasible anymore, its the only way to get the value out of them...
