How much weight do you have in your bed for daily driving?

Hey folks-
Was thinking about this today and it piqued my curiosity. I've got a '99, QC, LongBed with a 2" leveler up front and the camper package. I used to have a regular across bed toolbox that weighed around 50#, and then it was filled with around 150# of stuff, for a total of 200#. Truck always rode normal, a little light even- was happier with about another 100-200# in the back in the winter (sandbags). I recently switched this toolbox out to a Weatherguard drawer style, which weighs in at 420#, plus the 150# of stuff. Now I realize it's a 3/4 ton, and can feasably have 1500# in the bed, but is leaving ~570# in the bed going to hurt anything? Wear the springs out prematurely or anything? It seems to be riding much more soft then it did before (with the old box), but I don't have any more traction issues. And what sorts of weight do you guys have bolted down to the back of your trucks?

I'm hauling roughly a 1100 lbs of tools 24/7. Truck rides like a dream because of it.

Thats not much weight at all,,, hell i have an extra fuel tank in my bed that holds 80 gallons of diesel fuel , plus my tools, my 5th wheel hitch. Thats alot more than you have lol,,, also you can put alot more than 1500 pounds in the back. Heck alot of the 5th wheels have a hitch weight of 1,500 or more. I average 120,000 miles a year and 1/2 that has a 5th wheel trailer behind me... your lil load is no worries what so ever for you

I've got a toolbox, NV4500 w/dana 20 transfer case attached and a Dana 44 front axle complete with disk brakes for ballast at the moment. It rides pretty good. Actually I don't really remember how it feels empty. I've moved that tranny 2 times and it wasn't fun! She's stayin put

Alright, I'm not too worried about it in the short run (as like all of us, we've way overloaded our trucks at one point or another), but I'm just hoping in the long run it's not pre-maturely fatiguing my springs. Thanks for the votes of confidence!

MGlass- Nice wheeler. You better think about alloys in that front D44; the stockers ain't gonna hold up to the 5.0L and 35's . I've got a couple wheelers myself, and none of 'em like big tires on the D44.

I had around 200' worth of 4" channel iron (roughly 1k lbs.) in the back of my truck in the winter for weight. Rode a lot better than when empty. And it would push the snow pretty good like that too. Who says you need 4x4 in winter?

250 -350lbs all the time and more in the winter. I think they need at least that much just to ride anything close to comfortable. 500lbs is nothing for these.

mine truck carryed about 1500lbs in the bed for about 9 years, we had a 115 gallon red diesel tank, a over the rail tool box full to the brim with tools, and shovels cains and binders in the bed. Then every now and then a breaker for the bobcat. The truck rode better the more wieght we put on it.
