How much is too much for a stock lift pump??

With the mods i already have in my signiture, everythings working fine as far as current fuel pressure with stock pump. But im really anxious to upgrade my EZ chip to the Juice w/attitude. Im planning on installing an after market fuel pump at some point.. but i have the power bug bad and would much rather be drivin around with the Juice!! Is anyone else runnin a set up similiar to mine but with juice w/ attitude and stock fuel pump? Or does anyone know how much extra hp i can add on before the stock fuel pump cant take it and givs? any advise would be great thanks.

What are your FP numbers now?
Looks like your ready to tap the wire to me. Many have without gauges and live just fine. Us with gauges worry too much, not a bad thing. That being said after I recover from my trans upgrade I'm looking for an adrenaline, then turbo, then injectors. then....... But I do have my fuel system taken care of, I hope. It's all a game, more hp = more fuel eventually you will need to upgrade but as long as your watching numbers and they are good, go for it.

The stock lift pump failure is what causes a lot of the VP44 failures. get yourself a set of guages first. Mods are great, but not if the truck is DOA. Make your first mods, ones that will support all of your following mods. Guages first will be the general consortium.

Gauges are listed in sig, hence my reply as well as a built trans.

Good to go IMO just watch FP and then upgrade if necessary.

Yea the gauges came very first.. Currently at idle my fuel pres is at 14. for normal driving it stays at 10 and 11.. around 9 for highway driving. With the EZ on the top stage (65 hp) and floorin it, itll drop as low as 5 then climb back to 9-10 as i gain speed. Im just worried Puttin the juice w/ attitude on will suck it down lower than 5, possibly doing unseen damage, when i step on it with the Juice on its top setting of 100 hp.

Worse.....Low pressure contributes to causing the VP44 to fail. Excess fuel to the injection pump cool it. When pressure drops, there's no extra fuel to cool the pump. It all gets delivered to the engine. Most don't want it to get below 10 at WOt.

Whats WOT?? and also if im understanding right.. Theres the lift pump to lift the fuel from the tank to the.. Fuel pump? and the fuel pump delivers it to the engine? is that right??

A VP44 is the Injection pump, which is fed by your lift pump. I have kind of the set up you are looking at I think, I can pull pressure down to 2 PSI to the floor on the 120hp setting when the converter locks up. I already killed one VP pump so an airdog is goin on my truck before I do anything else to it haha.
p.s. WOT means wide open throttle.

Oh ok WOT gotcha! So which would be better to upgrade.. the lift pump or the injection pump? if i do one will the other be able to keep up? or would it be more wise to save a little more $ and get the full new fuel system?

Also.. 19Fury69, If your looking for a new trans.. i love my DTT and Terry at Moonlight Diesel really knows his stuff and can customize it to work the best with your truck. just fyi

Well, you would upgrade your lift pump to avoid killing your VP-44 injection pump. The VP-44 is $1000-$1200 just for the part and low fuel pressure is probably the no. 1 thing that'll kill it. The stock Carter lift pump is a POS and can fail without warning. There's no reason to change the VP-44 unless it has failed, so, yes it is the lift pump you would want to upgrade.

One other thing is that the VP44 is not really something you can upgrade, there are a couple options but the stock VP is the best choice for most people, I have heard way more bad things about the Hot Rod VP pump then good, and then theres the Monster VP, just look it up on youtube and you will see why you coulden't really drive one on the street.
Thanks for the recomendation on the tranny I really dont know where im going to get one yet, all depends on the money I can make in the next 2 months.
