Boy...I'm going to take a guess, because I hard to remove and replace my box by myself.I would say it weights about 300 lbs.

yea it isn't really that heavy just very awkward to lift. When i had to do the cab corners on my 1500 i just drove the truck in our lift bay and used the car lift to pick it. You and a few buddies could do it but getting it all lined up when you put it back on will be a bit tough.

i think the bed might weigh between 300-500lbs. Mine i left the tool box in it and i could lift one end of it no problem ( the end with the toolbox )

No need to remove the bed if you're just replacing the sender, tilt it instead.
Remover the drivers side bolts, loosen the passenger, unplug rear electrical connectors, remove fill and vent hoses and tilt it up.
Two people or even one strong one can tilt it up while another props it up with a 2x4.
Advantage to tilting is when you let it down bolt holes are lined up.

that is a neat idea aswell. I didn't think that the bolts would allow that much travel of the bed? im thinking that my sending unit is shot because the fuel gauge acts funny. it read 3/4 of a tank when i bought the truck i put $40 in it and it went closer to full. then i drove maybe 100 miles and it is reading less than half or sometimes it just rides on the E. but the funny thing is when i mash the throttle the fuel gauge goes up to like 1/4 tank

sounds like a sending unit problem to me. am it right?

Its not a big job about 2hrs unless you have to do it twice. I changed mine in 07 but had to pull it out again it still wasn't reading right I filled up and drove about 150 mi's and it never moved. I sit it on a bench and took my old flot and put it beside the new one had to bend the arm a little to match the old one and all was well. Its like infidel said take out the front bolts loosen the rear bolts and lift it up enough to get to it. I still have the old one there is a repair I printed off from a TDR member I might try someday.

When i was looking the other day, it looked like there was alignment pins on the frame rails near the center of the bed. this not the case?

i don't remember alignment pins on mine. i just used a big punch and lined it up that way. but then again i also lifted the bed vertically then pulled out from under it then backed back under it. so it was pretty much lined up.

it only takes two guys, once you have all the bolts out, each of you grab a fender well and slide the bed to the rear. it should give enough clearance to pull the sender. lining it back up is simple enough, it will go back into place fairly easy once you get one bolt started.
