Horn No worky

My horn quit working yesterday......

i can mash on the steering wheel and nothing happens.....

I jumped off the horn relay and put in a button switch for temp horn. It works fine.

I took the steering wheel apart and removed the SRS system to check it out......It appears to be a circuit card under the 2 hown buttons on the steering wheel....anyone know how to fix this. Could it be worn contacts between the button/circuit card?

I put it just put it back together and gave up.....would love to get it working again.

Thanks in advance. Zack

Try talking to a service writer at a dealer - make that a couple different dealerships.. if they say the same thing, you can most probably get the parts from them and repair it yourself.

On my '95 there is a spring loaded contact at the other end of the wire that goes to the horn pad. This makes contact by sliding on the back part of the column as you turn the wheel. On mine I took it out and cleaned it and fixed my problem. I don't know if it is the same for yours but it's worth looking at.

It's a while since I took it out but if I remember correctly you have to remove the cruise control switches (if you have them - two screws on the back and they come out the front) and then remove four screws on the back side of the steering wheel down deep in the pockets in the plastic cover. I can't remember what kind of heads they have (6 or 8mm maybe or torx???) but you need a deep skinny socket like a 1/4" drive deep.

The SRS/horn pad will come off as a complete unit and you can remove the wires if you want - CAUTION - You do this at your own risk. You might want to disconnect the batteries first. I did this without disconnecting anything but you never know!

Sorry I can't remember the exact details but it was a while ago. The only thing I remember being a little tricky was getting to the screws on the back of the wheel. Nothing hard about it.

This was on my '95 - other years may be different, your milage may vary, batteries not included...

Yes do be real careful if you do that. If you are not careful then you might get popped in the face by the airbag.

Yeah I have a 98 its different. I had the batt. disconectted while doing this.

Take the two screws out from the back of the wheel and the whole cover comes off. The SRS wil be on the cover but attatched to a yellow wire. disconnect that wire. there will be a metal plate over the SRS. Take off the 3 screws holding it to the cover and it pops off the cover. Under the SRS there is a flat circuit card with a red and black wire coming out...........those are for the horn i suppose but both are connected on mine.

The cruise switches are not on the cover they are on the sides of the cover and stay on the wheel when you pull the cover.

Airbags are scary to me so I was real careful and killed the pwer to the truck at leats 20 minutes prior to doing this......
