Hood Insulation - Worth the $$?
I am considering installing the hood-insulation that Dodge has removed - can anyone speak to how effective this insulation is in reducing engine noise? If I decide to install it, I'll try to source it used - any ideas on where I can find one used?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Joe..

I bought new from dealer, and installed. Didn't notice much difference, but I don't hear that well anyway.
Original quote was over $100. Paid in the range of $50 after a bit of haggling. Did rear fender inner liners also.

BigK- - What did you have to give for your rear fender liners if you don't mind me asking.

Anyone know why Dodge did not put them on the 02?

Here's the one you want. I've seen one installed and have heard the difference when the hood is closed. DOn't know if it's worth the money, but it sure does look nice too.

Thanks!
Thanks for the insight guys - I think I'll hold off...

BTW, I did add the fender inserts - I think they were $75 for both (from the dealer) - too much in my opinion, but I didn't think I really had a choice (probably no-one making them aftermarket)...

Joe..

Re:Hood Insulation - Worth the $$?
I had my new 02 CTD for two weeks before I went down to the dealer and paid for the hood liner. I was expecting a big difference in sound in the cab. No dice. In my opinion, it didnt make a bit of difference in the sound so it was probably a waste of $50 plus the $35 in retainer clips I had to pay for it.

The only thing it might have done is take some of the 'ring' out of the sound, but that is a subjective call on my part. My next steps will be to put something on the back of the cab wall and under the carpeting in an effort to reduce some of the in cab noise a little.

Fender liners, I beleive, were $58 for the pair. I had to beat them up pretty bad to get them for that. Rivets were about $1.15/ea. (list $1.85 ). I used SS hardware instead. Removeable in case I want to install airbags.

Re:Hood Insulation - Worth the $$?
For noise... probably not worth it. However, I am going to try to locate a junkyard liner simply for hood insulation in winter when truck is sitting outside plugged in. There is a BIG difference in water temps when I cover the engine with a blanket (wife says you dont ever cover me with a blanket? [undecided]). Even at 0 deg F the water temp was about 130 deg with about 3.5 hrs plug in time. With out blanket could never get it that warm. Just an observation, thats all.

DuaneW.

Re:Hood Insulation - Worth the $$?
I purchased both the hood liner and the fender liners from the dealer, but i refused to pay 1.85 per clip and rivot. I got them from a body supply shop for 12.00 for 25 clips and 25 rivots.

I had both the hood liner and fender liners on my 2000, don't even notice the difference not having either one on my 2002. I would save your money. JMHO
