Help with Radio

My radio (stock radio) in my dodge just stops working after a rain storm. Then in couple days it comes back on, LOL. This happened to me a year ago and I replaced the radio. Everything was good until like couple months now with all the rain we got this year. Now it hasn't workes in two weeks and all I see is a one lighted line on it. Does anyone know what the problem may be or should I buy another radio?

Thanks,
Rob

Re:Help with Radio

I've never heard of that. If this has happened twice now, maybe you have a short in the wiring that feeds the radio, and this is causing the radio to go south. he moisture probably brings it on.

Shorts are tough to figure out. I would also add an extra ground or two to the radio and the dash it mounts to. Make sure the dash is grounded well and the radio. Just to to cover all the bases. Good luck finding the problem, I would start at the radio and follow the wiring harness back as far as possible, looking for sections that are rubbing against some sharp metal or something. I would also check any connections you find as well.

You can pick up a stock radio on ebay for cheap, so check there first. Good Luck cause this sounds like a tuffy. Kevin

Re:Help with Radio

I 2nd the notion to check the grounds.

My mom had a radio installed in her Caravan and the individual didn't hook up the case ground.

The radio would work intermittently, I guess using the ground in the connector plug.

I pulled it out, connected that "extra" ground and it's worked ever since.

Re:Help with Radio

Since it happens when it rains, I'd check the antenna mount, too. Make sure it's tight. And maybe the connector on the antenna end of the cable.
