heater and straight pipes

i recently just bought a 2000 24 valve dodge ram td and love it, however i have 2 questions that im sure sound stupid but i do not know the answer to. 1.) do all the ctd's have the engine block heater? (yes i know i should know that :-X 2.) I have heard that alot of people remove the resonator and muffler, i would love to do this but live in northern virginia where you must pass emissions, will this affect my truck passing? any help someone can provide would be greatly appreciated

Yep the all have block heaters, and your struck does not have a cat so the emissions should not change. Don't know Virginia and muffler noise or elimination.

Re:heater and straight pipes

Welcome to the site quantrill88,
Like Bill said, they all have the block heaters. As far as straight-piping the exhaust,,,,, There is no catalytic converter for emissions, but I guess I will find out in the morning if mine is going to pass. The laws have changed so much, that I can't keep up with them. You know it used to be,,,,, As long as there was no leak in the exhaust pipe from the engine to where it exited out from under the vehicle past the last passenger window,,,,,, it would pass inspection. A good example was unbaffled straight drag pipes on a Harley would legally pass inspection, but a police officer could pull you over and give you a ticket for an altered exhaust system as soon as you pulled out onto the road. :
I'll let you know how I come out tomarrow.

Quantrill88,
Welcome from another NORVA diesel-head. ;D
There is no emmission inspection at present in the state of Virginia for Diesel-powered vehicles.
The safety inspector should only check your system for exhaust leaks.
Rattlin' is correct that a local or state police can cite you for noise issues.

UPDATE ;D
"RATTLINRAM" passed with flying colors even though nobody in the shop could hear anything until I shut her down! ;D
However, I've been taking my vehicles to the same place to be inspected, since I started driving. :

Re:heater and straight pipes

No Ed,
It was just the normal state inspection. They don't do the emmission testing around here. I'm suprised that they don't do it in your neck of the woods though, being you are so close to D.C.

Re:heater and straight pipes

I always go to the same inspector for all my vehicles.
He tells me that Virginia has talked about emmission inspections for diesels, but doesn't expect to see anything for at least a couple of years. ;D

Re:heater and straight pipes

we have testing here in southern OH and it sucks. It was stupid because I pushed a 1 out of 21 even with the black smoke filling the building. I still wander how I passed.
DM01
