Heated Mirror - Not so Hot
Hey everyone, I'm new here, but glad to be participating.
I purchased my 2001 Ram 2500 used, and the passenger side heated mirror has always worked, and the driver's side has never worked. I can't even figure out which fuse is involved, but I assume if a fuse blows, neither side would work. Do the heating elements in the glass just die after a while? The truck only had 55,000 miles on it when I bought it two years ago (96,000 now).
Thanks in advance!

Its probably the heating element behind the glass. I am pretty sure these are on 1 fuse as I haven't noticed a rt or lt at either fuse location for these mirrors. I would bet you can carefully pry the glass off and check the element or pull the upper corner of the door panel away and see if the plug is clean and hooked solid together. An ohm meter would tell you if the circuits are complete. If its shot kool-vue makes nice replacements. Kurt

The drealer has them for about 45 bucks. I had to buy one after my RH mirror kissed the garage door jamb on the way out one morning. The housing wasn't hurt, but the glass flipped out and cracked. Hung by the wires. I bought the new one connected the wires and it just snapped into place. There's a round plastic mount behind the glass that it fits onto and some tabs that click into place to hold it.

Sorry, haven't got into the power heads yet. Sounds like Tocapet is steering you right though. There should be a few 'christmas tree' clips up the front of the panel and two along the top edge below the curve in the panel top. Use a removal tool and gently work the trees loose as they can break the thin notches in the door panel that they clip into. Also don't forget to remove the 2 screws in the handle cup and the one in the upper front corner. Kurt

I didn't have to remove any screws. The garage door jamb "removed" the glass for me. I tried snapping it back in, altho it was cracked, but it wouldn't stay. But the new one did and it's still there after 6 months. These are power mirrors and the power stuff works just fine.
