Headlight switch broke?? Symptoms are....

When I turn the lights on all I have are the head lights. No taillights, dash lights. Another strange thing is the fog light indicator lights up when the fogs are off but when you pull the *** out the indicator goes out??? Fuses all look good. I appreciate any help. Thanks

Have you checked the fuses and relays in the power distribution box? This is the box located under the hood on the drivers side mounted close to the fender. The underside of the lid has fuse/relay locations printed on it.

I went through 3 headlight switches. Finally now I just leave the dash lights as bright as possible, and no more problem. Running dash lights less than full-on will burn up the switch.

Really? I didn't know that. I hate the dash lights bright, but also hate buying switches more.

I used to run my dash lights low and the switch used to get too hot to touch. Eventually it will burn out the switch and can take out part of the wiring harness also. I hate bright dash lights too but the switch stays cool with them on high.

If you pull the facia off and drill some holes in the top of the vent tube that is under the switch it will extend the life of the switch and also allow you to dim the instrument lights. Driving with them on full bright increases eye strain. I also changed all my exterior lights to LEDs and wired relays to the high and low beams. No more heat at all.

There is a wiring harness that you can use that has two relays, one of each light, this will keep the power from going thru your headlight switch, and your switches will last much longer.
just seacrh on here for headlight relay harness or similar stuff.

I did this mod works great, and easy to do.

Other cars have headlight switch problems. The solution is to add relays (&) bigger wires or keep the dash on bright. There are plug & play kits or you can make your own. Diagrams of what people have done are online with a search.

Here is one site, there are others.

I built my own relay system years ago.

LMC truck has a kit for $29.99. You need to buy a fuse to put in line with it too.
