Headlight out...

How the heck do you get the bulb out of the headlight on these rams?

I fiddled with it for 20 minutes the other day , and i couldn't get it out, so i decided it was too cold outside and left it alone.

Also , what replacement bulb do i need?

If I remember right, you just twist the blue connector and the bulb should pop out.

You need a 9004 bulb.

Changing out bulbs is a bit of a hassle.

The Factory manual says to pull the batteries to change bulbs.......I don't think so.

I found the easiest way to do it is to release the locking collar around the bulb, get the bulb out of the headlight itself, then unplug the bulb from the harness.

Put the new bulb in the headlight, locking collar, then plug the harness in.

It is a pain in the butt. It can be done though.

Bulb should just pull straight back and out it comes.

Just spent an hour or so trying to do this myself.
Took the batteries out to improve access (and do
a apps reset while in the area).

Even then, could not get the darn locking ring
back on after several attempts and some encouraging
words. Decided it was worth the $5 to let willymart
try it later this week. Locking ring missing on other
side, so need to find one for there anyway.

Could not remove battery tray after taking off
obvious bolts. Is there something hiding underneath
still holding it on?

Don't try to get the battery tray out. It's just a pain in the butt. Just stick your hand in there. Push it in until the skin tears, then just a bit further. Grab the connector and pull it straight out, don't worry about the lock tab, it will ride over the latch. Then give the ring a little turn and off it will come. The guys at work always make me do it if a Ram or a Dynasty ever comes in needing a headlamp bulb, something about my "little girl hands". (my hands are really just stronger than theirs.)

Headlight Out

Glad I'm not the only one that had a time with this. First push and turn the locking ring approx one eighth turn left, it should pull back. Then, the bulb should pull straight back.
He're the funny part, I bought one replacement bulb, cross referenced at Auto Zone, looked just like the one I took out but the O ring must have been slightly larger. It would not!!! go in. Went back to store, got another model, went right in. Only important thing here is to make sure the pin on the bulb slides down the track on the housing.

I had a big problem changing bulbs last winter in -15 degree temp. You can only work for a few minutes when it that cold with bare hands so things have to be right. As noted the purple ring twists off hard when it is cold as the plastic acts like metal and has no give. Make sure you get the right number bulb. I fought this for 2 days untill I figured out the parts store gave me the wrong bulb. The thing will actually go together nicely if everything is lined up square. As far as taking other things off,, not me it was too cold to do that. I have big hands but I managed to squeeze in there and twist. It helps to have something to stand on too like a milk crate. don't stand inthe middle or you will be wearing it around your ankle. haha I even tried a hair dryer to give a little heat but this is not too safe. Maybe if someone else could hold it, it would help.
