Grid Heater Code P1291
#16
Added some wires to my multi-meter leads & snaked them out the door, under the hood, & to the loads I needed to check. Worked like a charm. Better than another set of hands! No power to 1 grid. 12.8v to the other. Checked the input side of the relays & both had power. Checked the output side of the relays & 1 of them had no output. Guess a relay is in order. Thanks to all for the help & source of parts. Hopefully this will be the solution.

An update! Called 9 parts houses & 1 dealer looking for the relay I need. None of them had it. Napa wanted $108.00 & they would order. AutoZ & Kragan were in the $90 -$96 range. They would order. Carquest also $91.00. Before I called all these parts houses, I called the Dodge dealer so I would know what they wanted for this relay. Would you believe.... $70.85. Lowest of the bunch. Didn't have it. Dealer told me there was 1 in Yuma AZ, 60 miles east of me. The Harley hadn't been run since Oct so on this fine sunny day I was off to Yuma, picked up the part, & will try do the install tomorrow. The web would have saved me about $10.00 but I wouldn't have had the great ride! Guess tomorrow will tell the rest of the story.

To all-
I'm getting the P1291 Code. "No temp increase change in heater" Something like that. Anyway, I believe the relay is working & I believe the grid heater is working because the lights dim & the needle in my alternator gauge deflects with each cycle. What do you all think is the cause of this engine light/code being displayed? A bad sensor?

My truck is doing all of these things every time it cycles the lights flicker and the battery is always slightly low and Hass to charge it when the truck is running also my mileage keeps jumping when refueling. I have 12 v from the Use the link to the battery so I know it’s getting power. Im going to try and find the part and replace that first. Any suggestions
Anyways, did you do the tests outlined in the thread - and which results did you get?
Cleaned the IAT sensor and plug?
