Gotta be a solution to this - back seat headrests

I searched high and low and can't find a solution to this - has anyone figured out how to add some sort of headrest to the back seat of a quad cab? Newer trucks have back seat headrests and I can't think it would be that hard but I need some inspiration to figure this out. Anyone got any suggestions?

My daughter is tall enough that she bumps her head on the back glass. I hate to think of what would happen if we got rear-ended, etc, without some sort of headrests.

thanks,

-Vic

In searching, the only reasonable suggestion for this I found is to go to a junkyard and get a rear seat or seat back off of a 2004 or newer Ram and swap it out. In desperation you could always put a tightly rolled up blanket or something back there. The only other suggestion I read was to tie pillows on the passengers head

Not sure of age or height of your daughter, but they make some booster seats that have built in head rests.

You might try a wrecking yard and find some headrests out of a car that mount with 2 long rods into the seat back. I don't know about Ford or Chrysler, but GM used this style a lot. Maybe some foreign cars as well. If the headrest doesn't poke out too far to the rear and hit the rear window, it may be possible to clamp the rods to the rear seat back frame.

they make head rests with suction cups that you could put on the back window.

Several years ago, I made my own. Thin wood, added 2 inches of foam, and wrapped in matching fabric from an upholstery shop. I stick it to the window with double-sided tape. Probably would have considered buying instead if they had made them years ago.

Personally, this lack of safety for backseat passengers always bugged me so I did what Dodge didn't.

I've been playing around with this idea for a few days now. First I am going to try to find a leather seat back from a 2nd get as I understand those had head rest 'bumps' and see if it adds enough height to solve the problem.

If that doesn't work, i've been checking out headrests as I drive around and there are lots that look like options to either secure behind the seat or into the seat frame itself. In particular 1st generation Dakota's look like a good candidate. I can't find any JC Whitney type add-on headrests - suction cup or otherwise, but making something along those lines is an option as well.

Thanks for the comments guys,

-Vic

Get her a helmet.

The back seat is so upright that I think a headrest would put her head at a forward tilting position, if there was any padding to it at all, which may actually make a rear end type collision injury worse.

I have come to the conclusion that a quad cab is more of a closet than a passenger area.
